Short Synopsis
Gods Tomorrow introduces a world where Americans have traded in the concept
of privacy for the convenience of total information awareness. The pervasive database
Hathor tracks all aspects of human behavior and offers highly personalized services
that range from restaurant suggestions and budget software to realty transactions
and government services. The introduction of total surveillance greatly reduced the
nation's criminal element, but as always the rich and powerful have their own ways
of hiding from Hathor's all-seeing eye.
The first book in a long-running series, Gods Tomorrow follows the story of
Katie Pratt, an accomplished detective with the New York Police Department who takes a
job with the FBI's Ghost Targets task force. Katie's first case seems like a routine
murder investigation, but as she digs deeper she finds a conspiracy that ultimately
pits her against the designers of the pervasive surveillance database and forces her
to learn the job quickly, or doom the world to utter chaos.
Literary Influences
Gods Tomorrow matches the futuristic vision of Minority Report to the
dramatic, familiar rhythm of Law and Order. The story is a fast-paced action
thriller with underlying social and mythical elements much like Dan Brown's
The Da Vinci Code.
The Series
Gods Tomorrow introduces the Hathor universe, along with the character Katie Pratt,
as she starts her new job with the FBI. The Ghost Targets
series follows Katie's career with the Ghost Targets task force and explores the long-term
effects of the events in this book.
