Short Synopsis
Golden Age explores a world where America's quiet stability
and constant progress falters in the face of a social threat. When an irresponsible
journalist turns a college prank into a fast-growing, anti-government religious cult,
fear and prejudice bring the nation to the brink of upheaval. A single incident, an
accident at a presidential rally, is enough to push us over the edge and into
complete chaos.
The first book in a four-book series, Golden Age follows the story of five
college friends who gather together in Oklahhoma City for a fun weekend and end up
watching together as their world begins to crumble. Dave, who works as the governor's
speech writer, gets called on to help craft an address to the people. His friends
come along on a trip to the studio that becomes a nightmare when local cultists bomb
the station. As the governor lies injured and the city burns, these five friends
enter a race against the terrorists to find a functioning station to broadcast the
call for hope and order.
Literary Influences
Much like Stephen King's iconic The Stand, Golden Age considers the
unthinkable end of America's glowing success story and shows what life after her
downfall might look like. At the same time, the series has the feel of a Dan Brown
novel, exploring a fantastic alternate reality within the mundane.
The Series
Golden Age introduces the Sleeping Kings universe, along with the major
characters who fight to preserve some level of order in their hometown. The
Sleeping Kings
series follows their heroic actions as they spread out, taking their bravery into
a shattered world and remaking it as best they can.
