Short Synopsis
Taming Fire introduces a world about to be overrun by the waking of the
dragons - a swarm of terrible beasts intent on overthrowing the civilization of
man and restoring the world to natural chaos. The Sarian kingdom, heritage of the
legendary FirstKing, is now ruled by a petty and short-sighted lord who has traded
his armies for the unearthly might of the Academy of Wizardry. The wizards' terrible
power proves useless against the dragons, though, and the whole nation stands
defenseless against the rising tide of destruction.
One of the king's wizards shows the insight to recruit a promising young swordsman to
train at the Academy, gifting him with both the versatility of a wizard and the
killing power of a soldier. His plans go awry when he runs afoul of the king's personal
insecurity, and the boy he has chosen as his pupil becomes a victim of the wizard's
ambition. In the end, the boy faces a dragon and survives, and rescues a town besieged
by rebels to win the affection of hundreds and the love of a beautiful young baroness -
all through his own determination and wits.
Literary Influences
Taming Fire shares the sense of adventure found in Harry Potter and
Eragon, but sets it in a richer, darker environment that evokes Tolkien's
Lord of the Rings.
The Series
Taming Fire introduces the FirstKing's universe, along with the character Daven
when he is just a penniless shepherd. The Dragonprince
trilogy follows Daven's rise to power and the aftermath of the dragonswarm.
